Integrated Query Engine

Select Query...

The integrated query engine allows non-technical users to create data queries using a "point and click" style interface. In the screen shot to the right, the query engine is asking the user to select the query to edit. In this instance, a new query will be setup.

Select Fields...
From the Select Data Query Fields dialog, the user can select the fields to report on. In the Screen XML configuration, screens can be flagged to appear or not appear in this dialog, allowing it to focus on those screens that are commonly reported on. Additionally, this dialog is aware of security configuration. If the user does not have permission to see a screen or field, it will not appear in this selection dialog.

The Select Data Query Records dialog allows the user to select the records that will appear on the report. Note that there is a mechanism to allow the user to enter selection data when the report is run. In this example, the Recent Hire Date data value of 01/01/1995 could be replaced by an input string that instructs the system to collect the Hire Date data value when the user runs the report.

Select Records...
Select Sort Order...
From the Select Data Query Sort Order dialog, the fields that the determine the order the records will appear in are selected.

The Save Data Query dialog is where the query is saved to the database. Note that the SQL could be overridden if there was a need to have more complex selection criteria than the interface allows the user to build. The Client Report section allows the data selected by the data query to be pushed against a more robust reporting format than the one line per record format that the data query tool uses.
