Execute SQL

A robust Execute SQL capability allows knowledgable staff to execute update SQLs that modify data globally or to execute query SQLs that return query data in an Excel spreadsheet.

A SQL Template screen allows pre-configured SQL templates to be setup that can jump start the creation of a new SQL statement. Or the template can contain a sql statement that is ready to execute "as is". The Execute SQL dialog where SQLs are actually run contains a drop down that allows any of the template SQL on this screen to be used..

The system records all SQLs that are run, allowing implementation staff to understand what update SQLs have been run should there ever be any questions about why the data is in the state that it is in. Previously run SQL statements are also available in a drop down on the Execute SQL dialog, allowing them to be re-executed or used as a jumping off point to create a new one.

The Execute SQL is where update or query SQLs are run. The SQL Template drop down populates the SQL Statement area with SQL from the SQL Template screen. Similarly, the Previously Run SQLs drop down uses SQL from the Previously Run SQL screen. When the SQL Description field is populated, the description provided will be used for the description on the Previously Run SQLs screen. When it isn't, a generic description will be created that includes date and time. The Data Dictionary area is informational only and provides SQL table and field names along with the associated screen and field labels.
